Looking good at Warner Brothers with David Allday

So we understand the new Tarzan movie is due to open in the UK on July 6th, after its London premier on the 5th. We’re all very excited.

How were you involved in the making of the film?
I am a Senior Art Director

So what does that mean?
I help to head up the Design Team for the movie. I am responsible for making sure the look of the movie is delivered as the Production Designer has envisaged, in this case, Stuart Craig – the maestro of the Harry Potter films.
It involves an acute awareness of scheduling, budgetary considerations and also an expertise in the various skilled disciplines that make up the design team.

How long have you been doing what you’ve been doing?
I have been fortunate enough to have been working in feature film and television design departments for over 40 years. And I still feel about 29.

We thought you were (as we give a flirtatious grin)
We know you’re a cyclist, what do you typically ride?

I am a club cyclist who manages a few sportives a year end the occasional trip to the cols of the Alps. In summer I ride a Specialized S-works Tarmac.
For commuting and winter I have a Charge Juicer with mudguards. I also have a Specialized Hardrock for occasional blasts around the countryside in winter.

You had a FOFFA Single Speed to use while filming, is having use of a bike on set useful?
I have been working at Warner Brothers, Leavesden for the last few years.
It’s a huge site and typically I move around it all day long when we are building and shooting sets. Having my Foffa single speed is the perfect way of getting around. Oh, and as an Art Director – it’s important that it looks good.

Do you take the FOFFA Single Speed on to other sets?
It is absolutely Top Secret that I am just helping to complete filming on the latest David Yates directed movie – ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’
